Shopify app questions, answered.

The things merchants, founders and agencies ask us most — about cost, timelines, App Store review, ownership and how we work.

How much does it cost to build a Shopify app?
It depends on scope. A single checkout Function or theme block can be a few thousand dollars; a public App Store app with billing, onboarding and a Polaris dashboard typically starts around $15,000. We always scope the work and give you a fixed price before anything is built — see pricing for the shape of a typical engagement.
How long does it take to build a Shopify app?
Most MVP apps go from kickoff to a working build in a matter of weeks, not months — small extensions can be days. We deliver in weekly increments on a development store so you see progress the whole way, and you get a clear timeline with your fixed quote.
Will my app pass Shopify App Store review?
We build to the App Store review guidelines and Built for Shopify criteria from the first commit — correct OAuth, billing, mandatory GDPR webhooks, performance and Polaris UX. We also handle submission and respond to reviewer feedback. Most of our public apps pass on the first review.
Who owns the code and the IP?
You do. The repository, the application and all intellectual property are assigned to you on final payment. We don't lock you into a proprietary platform or hold your code hostage — host it, maintain it or hand it to another team whenever you like.
What's the difference between a public app and a custom (private) app — which do I need?
A public app is listed on the Shopify App Store, installable by any merchant and usually billed via Shopify — it needs multi-tenancy and review. A custom (private) app is built for a single store or Plus org and installed directly. Solving your own store's problem? You usually want a custom app. Want to sell to other merchants? You want a public app. We'll help you decide.
What technologies do you build with?
Shopify's modern stack: the GraphQL Admin API, App Bridge and Polaris for embedded admin UIs, Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions for checkout, theme app extensions for the storefront, and Remix or Node for app backends. For headless we use Hydrogen and the Storefront API. We pick the right tool for your app — not a one-size-fits-all template.
Do you maintain and support apps after launch?
Yes. Every build includes 30 days of post-launch support, and most clients move onto a Care & Growth retainer for ongoing monitoring, bug fixes, Shopify API version upgrades and new features. Apps that aren't maintained eventually break when Shopify deprecates an old API version.
Can you rescue or take over an existing Shopify app?
Absolutely — it's one of our specialities. We start with a code and security audit, stabilise the critical issues, bring the app up to a current API version, then either hand it back with documentation or keep maintaining it. Lost your developer or inherited a messy codebase? That's a common reason people call us.
Do you sign NDAs, and where are you based?
Yes — we'll sign an NDA before you share anything confidential; just ask in the enquiry form. We're a small, senior studio based in Australia, working with merchants, founders and agencies worldwide, and we white-label for agencies who need Shopify work behind the scenes.
